Post Two: What and Who Influenced You When You Were Younger? (2-4-2020)

The person who influenced me when I was younger was definitely my mom. She’s my best friend and we always share everything, and she made sure to set a good example for all of her kids, especially me. Her goal-driven mentality and her love for working hard and getting the most out of life really made me think that I could do that too. She went back to school twice when I was younger and got two more certificates/MBAs in order to provide for her family more, and the fact that she got through it all and hardly complained showed me that I can do it too. She reminded me as a kid that I can do anything I set my mind to despite what other people think; and that I am my own person with my own unique personality. It really stuck with me as a kid. Something else that influenced me when I was younger was definitely music, as stereotypical as that sounds for a music production major. I spent most of my childhood listening to 80s metal and rock because of my parents. The guitar and drums in those songs, especially in groups like Motley Crue, Whitesnake and Def Leppard made me want to start playing my own instruments. Although that kind of music isn’t necessarily popular anymore, it really gave me an idea as to what real, authentic music should and did sound like. That then led me to play guitar, drums, piano and produce and create my own music as well. Music has always played a part in my childhood and ultimately helped me decide what my major was going to be in college. Other artists like Skrillex, Nicky Romero and Coldplay that were around when I was in elementary/middle school influenced me a lot in regards to more of the Dubstep/EDM/synth realm of music, even though not a lot of people liked their sound at the time. It was a mixture of a lot of things that really influenced me when I was younger, but those two are probably the top of the list.
